This led, on my return as LSO leader in 1976, to the
New Years Concerts, first at the Royal Albert Hall and then
the Barbican, which I finally stopped doing on 31st December 2015 after 40 consecutive years, 25 with the LSO, one with the BBC Concert Orchestra, 13 with the RPO and one with the LPO.
An interest in conducting started during the
three absent years, 1973 to 1976, when I left the LSO "temporarily" and began conducting youth orchestras and
directing Viennese concerts "from the violin"
This led to several recordings with the LSO, four of which are illustrated below
I have been made an honourary member of the Johann Strauss Society of Great Britain
and was for a while their archivist, librarian and, still am, webmaestro .
