lso in daytona

The first LSO visit to Daytona Beach was in August 1966, when the orchestra, plus wives and children, spent one month in the city of sun, sand, sex, speedway. and now symphony! This extraordinary "luxury" of being able to stay in one place for four whole weeks, was as a result of the courageous ambitions of the organisers of the Florida International Festival, and lasted in this format for four consecutive years.

At left, the opening concert in August 1967, under the baton of the LSO's principal conductor, Istvan Kertesz (1929-1973).
